Qiyam-ul-layl, also known as the night prayer, is a voluntary prayer offered between the time of Isha and Fajr prayer. It is one of the Nafli prayers, which are non-obligatory but highly recommended by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). The night prayer is considered one of the most virtuous acts of worship, as it is said that “the best prayer after the obligatory prayers is the night prayer” (Sahih Muslim).

In the Quran, Allah addresses the believers who pray during the night, and encourages them to “arise during the night to pray, for only half of it, or add a little to it or subtract from it, and read the Quran in measure” (Surah Muzammil: 1-4). This verse highlights the importance of Qiyam-ul-layl and the benefits of devoting time to this prayer.

It is important to note that Qiyam-ul-layl can be performed at any time of the night, but it is encouraged to pray after midnight. If you are praying the Tahajjud salah, which is a specific type of night prayer, it is best to do it at the last third of the night, at least 1 hour before the Fajr prayer. This is considered the most opportune time as the night is at its darkest and the mind and heart are at their most peaceful and receptive state.

By making Qiyam-ul-layl a regular part of our worship, we can gain the spiritual benefits of connecting with Allah during the quiet hours of the night. It is a time for reflection, repentance, and asking for forgiveness. It is also an opportunity to gain closeness to Allah and to seek His guidance and protection.

Therefore, It is a great way to start your morning with a peaceful heart, by connecting with Allah, reciting Quran and making Dua. You can learn more about Qiyam-ul-layl and other forms of worship by joining Arabian Tongue Quran and Islamic studies online courses.
