A father figure can significantly influence the life and wellbeing of their child. In families where the father figure is present, the father is the first male role models the children interact with.
Fathers are significant because they are commanded by Allah to work hard to provide the physical, educational, psychological, and spiritual needs of a child. ‘Ali ibn al-Husain (r.a.) is reported to have said,
“The right of your father on you is that you should know that it is he who brought you into existence, and you are a branch of the tree of his life.”
Quran mentioned the status of parents many times:
"…Do not worship except Allah, and to parents do good…" (2:83)
"Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good …" (4:36)
"Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination" (31:14)
Fatherhood is of such importance in Islam that it is the fundamental basis of the identity of all Muslims. Allah said,
“Let children be called in the name of their fathers. That is more just in the sight of Allah.” (Surah al-Ahzab 33:5).
As we get older, we will, in general, overlook that our parents are getting older. And they have pushed aside to living all alone or in nursing homes while we start our own families. Not exclusively is this negligence, prudently prohibited in Islam. Allah has instructed us to treat out guardians with the most extreme regard, nevertheless the situation we are in.
Our parents have been with us during most of our lives, teaching us, and being mentors. In Islam, honoring and regarding one’s parents is not something to be done once a year; instead, they should be flattered and valued every day.
