Steps to Understand Quran Better

There are a few steps that one should follow to gain an insight into the teachings of the Holy Quran 

Get a Good Translation
Even though the original and only official version of the Quran is in Arabic, you can get a lot of meaning and understanding out of a translation in any language. If you are reading the Quran translated into English, you will find that there are several translations.
Find a translation that uses language that has meaning to you while reading a Quran translation and skip convoluted translations unless you really do understand Old English better than modern, conversational English

Time
Make reading and memorising the Quran a daily activity and allocate a special time devoted to this purpose. Try to choose a suitable time when you are fresh and not tired.

context
To fully understand the Quran, we have to understand under what circumstances verses were revealed. Certain verses might sound weird if we don’t know what is going on in the context of the real time revelation.
 context makes a huge difference to understanding.

Purify your intentions
The first and foremost step to reading and understanding the Quran is to purify your inner soul and rid it from all negativity and evil. That is when the word of Allah will hit you like none other. When you have purified your intentions and completely focused on the content and getting that feeling that Allah is speaking to you, that is when you know your soul has been purified and Allah has invited you to understand his word.

Think and contemplate
When you’re reading the Quran, read it as though you are reading a message that Allah has sent for you. Think about it and try to delve on the meaning of what Allah is saying to you. And then mould your life according to the message that you have understood. The result will only make you a spiritual, kind person and following the commandments of Islam.

Group
Read and memorise the Quran within a group. Members of groups help each other in correcting mistakes and thus make the task easier. Prophet Muhammad  said: "Whenever a group congregates in one of the houses of Allah (i.e., Mosques) to recite the Book of Allah (Quran) and study it, peace and mercy will descend upon them, the angels will surround them and Allah will mention them to those with Him (i.e., the angels)." [Muslim]

Remove Bias
If you come to the Quran looking for what you have already decided is in it, you will find it. Admittedly a few blessed people who have come to the Quran to prove their bias have found God’s guidance. However, that is not always the case.
The Quran is a mirror to bias and a door to truth. If you come to it with bias, it will be reflected back at you. If you come to it open, it will open for you.

Make Dua For Success 
You will see many hurdles when achieving your goal. You must turn to Allah and he will surely listen to you. The Almighty has complete control over the universe and can guide us all.
