Quran Ijazah Course

There is a journey in Islam that few undertake, yet those who do carry something extraordinarily precious β€” a living, unbroken chain of Quranic transmission that stretches back fourteen centuries to the lips of the Prophet Muhammad ο·Ί himself. That journey is called Ijazah. And at Arabian Tongue, we make it possible for Muslims around the world to pursue and achieve this sacred honor through our Online Quran Ijazah Course.

Whether you are an adult who has spent years perfecting your recitation or a parent who wants to set your child on the path to Quranic mastery, our certified teachers are ready to accompany you every step of the way β€” in private, live, one-on-one sessions designed around your schedule and your goals.

What Is Ijazah?

The word Ijazah means “permission” or “authorization” in Arabic. In the context of the Quran, it refers to a formal certification granted by a qualified scholar to a student who has demonstrated mastery of Quranic recitation with proper Tajweed. When a student receives Ijazah, they are granted the authority to teach the Quran and pass on the chain of transmission β€” just as their teacher received it from their teacher, generation after generation, all the way back to the Prophet ο·Ί.

This chain is called the Isnad β€” and it is one of the most remarkable features of Islamic scholarship. Every Quran teacher with Ijazah can trace their certification through a specific chain of named scholars back to the Companions of the Prophet ο·Ί, who learned directly from him. This means that when you recite the Quran with Ijazah, you are reciting it exactly as it was recited 1,400 years ago.

There are different types of Ijazah:

  • Ijazah in Recitation (Riwayah Hafs an Asim) β€” the most common, certifying mastery of the recitation of Hafs from Asim, which is the most widely used Qiraa’ah in the world
  • Ijazah in Memorization (Hifz) β€” certifying complete memorization of the Quran with Tajweed
  • Ijazah in Multiple Qira’at β€” for advanced scholars who have mastered more than one mode of recitation

Our Online Ijazah Course focuses primarily on Ijazah in Hafs an Asim, with the option to pursue memorization-based Ijazah for students who have completed their Hifz.

Who Is This Course For?

The Online Quran Ijazah Course at Arabian Tongue is designed for:

  • Adults who have a strong command of Tajweed and wish to earn their Ijazah
  • Huffaz (those who have memorized the Quran) who want to obtain certification for their memorization
  • Islamic Studies teachers and imams who want to formalize and document their Quranic credentials
  • Parents who want to enroll their children in our dedicated Quran Ijazah for Kids program
  • Anyone who wants to deepen their connection to the Quran and contribute to its preservation

Is Ijazah only for scholars? Absolutely not. While it requires serious commitment and dedication, Ijazah is achievable by any sincere student who is willing to put in the work. Our teachers have guided students of all backgrounds to this achievement.

Quran Ijazah Course

The path to Ijazah is structured, rigorous, and deeply rewarding. Here is a comprehensive overview of what the course covers:

Phase 1: Tajweed Mastery Assessment and Refinement

Before you can begin reciting for Ijazah, your Tajweed must be at a high level. In this phase:

  • Your teacher conducts a detailed assessment of your current recitation
  • All Tajweed rules are reviewed: Makharij, Sifaat, Madd, Noon and Meem Sakinah rules, Waqf and Ibtida
  • Common mistakes and bad habits are identified and corrected
  • You practice with selected Surahs until your recitation meets the required standard
  • Students who need further Tajweed development are enrolled in our Tajweed Course first

Phase 2: Full Quran Recitation (Khatmah)

Once your Tajweed is confirmed at the required level, you will begin reciting the entire Quran β€” from Surah Al-Fatihah to Surah An-Nas β€” in front of your certified teacher. This is called the Khatmah (complete recitation):

  • You recite portion by portion in each session
  • Your teacher listens attentively and corrects any errors in real time
  • The pace is set according to your ability β€” there is no rush, but there is a standard
  • Sessions are recorded (with your consent) for documentation and review

Phase 3: Chain of Transmission (Isnad) Documentation

Once you have completed the Khatmah and your teacher is satisfied with your recitation:

  • Your teacher formally grants you the Ijazah
  • A written Ijazah certificate is issued in your name
  • The certificate includes your teacher’s chain of transmission (Isnad) back to the Prophet ο·Ί
  • You become an authorized bearer of the Quranic chain β€” and you may now teach others and grant them Ijazah in the future

Why Choose Arabian Tongue for Your Online Ijazah Course?

Choosing the right platform for your Ijazah journey is an important step toward mastering the Quran with confidence and authenticity. Arabian Tongue provides a supportive online learning environment led by qualified teachers, helping students of all ages achieve their goals with flexible schedules and personalized guidance.Β

Teachers Who Hold Ijazah Themselves

This is non-negotiable. You cannot receive Ijazah from a teacher who does not hold it themselves β€” because the chain would be broken. Every teacher at Arabian Tongue who conducts Ijazah sessions holds a verified Ijazah with a documented Isnad. When you receive Ijazah from them, your chain is authentic and connected.

Al-Azhar University Graduates

Our teachers are graduates of Al-Azhar University β€” the thousand-year-old institution in Cairo that is universally recognized as the world’s foremost authority on Islamic and Quranic sciences. Their credentials are not just academic; they are a mark of scholarly rigor and religious integrity.

Online β€” Without Compromise

Some students worry that online Ijazah is not valid. Let us address this directly: scholars have confirmed that Ijazah granted online is valid, provided the teacher holds a proper Ijazah themselves, the student completes the full recitation in front of the teacher, and the chain of transmission is documented correctly. All three conditions are met at Arabian Tongue.

Our Online Ijazah Course brings this sacred institution into the digital age β€” without sacrificing a single element of its integrity.

Ijazah in Quran Recitation: The Spiritual Significance

Holding Ijazah is not just a credential β€” it is a spiritual responsibility and an immense honor. The Prophet ο·Ί said:

“The best of you are those who learn the Quran and teach it.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

When you earn your Ijazah, you become part of this living tradition of transmission. You carry the words of Allah in a way that is verified, documented, and connected β€” not just memorized or recited, but sanctioned. You are authorized to teach others, to grant them Ijazah, and to extend the chain further into the future.

For parents who enroll their children in Quran Ijazah for Kids, the reward is multiplied. You are investing in your child’s deen, planting seeds that will grow throughout their lifetime and beyond. The Prophet ο·Ί also said:

“When a man dies, his deeds come to an end except for three things: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” (Sahih Muslim)

A child who carries Ijazah carries beneficial knowledge β€” and the prayers of a child trained in the Quran are among the most precious gifts a parent can receive.

FAQs

How long does the Online Ijazah Course take?

This varies significantly depending on your starting level and session frequency. Students who already have strong Tajweed and are consistent with sessions typically complete the program in 1 to 2 years. Students who need significant Tajweed refinement first may take longer. Your teacher will give you a realistic estimate after the initial assessment.

Do I need to have memorized the Quran to get Ijazah?

No. Ijazah in recitation (as opposed to Ijazah in Hifz) requires that you recite the entire Quran correctly with Tajweed β€” but not that you have it memorized. You may recite from the Mushaf during your sessions.

Is online Ijazah recognized by Islamic scholars?

Yes. The overwhelming consensus among contemporary scholars, including those at Al-Azhar, is that Ijazah granted online is valid when the conditions are met. Our teachers are prepared to address this question in detail during your trial session.

What age is appropriate for children to pursue Ijazah?

Children as young as 7 or 8 who have a strong foundation in Tajweed and/or have completed or are completing Hifz can begin the Ijazah path. Our teachers assess each child individually. The key is readiness, not age.

What is the difference between Ijazah in Recitation and Ijazah in Hifz?

Ijazah in Recitation certifies that you can recite the entire Quran correctly with Tajweed. Ijazah in Hifz certifies that you have memorized the entire Quran correctly with Tajweed. Some students pursue both. We offer both programs.

Can I teach others once I receive my Ijazah?

Yes. That is precisely the point of Ijazah β€” to authorize you to teach and to pass on the chain. Once certified, you may teach Quran to others and, when they reach the required standard, grant them Ijazah yourself.
