On the authority of Abu Hurairah – may Allah be pleased with him – on the authority of the Prophet – may Allah bless him and grant him peace – who said: مَن قَامَ لَيْلَةَ القَدْرِ إيمَانًا واحْتِسَابًا، غُفِرَ له ما تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنْبِهِ، ومَن صَامَ رَمَضَانَ إيمَانًا واحْتِسَابًا غُفِرَ له ما تَقَدَّمَ مِن ذَنْبِهِ So the basic condition for the forgiveness of sins is that the servant seeks, by fasting, the face of Allah – the Almighty.
